THE DYING FALLS

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Dying Falls are

Mark VanMiddlesworth (guitars, keys)
Daniel Thorn (the bass guitar)
Ben Simon (drums)
J. Matthew Axten (vocals, guitars, songs)

The Dying Falls began with Matt and Mark recording Matt's songs in a sweltering and questionably-zoned Allston garage apartment. Their first live shows soon followed, with the addition of Dan (formerly of Cambridge's "Velmacore" pioneers the Sinister Turns) and trustworthy drum machine/unofficial fifth member Alexis. Nowadays, the Falls are a fully-fledged four-piece postcollegiate rock ensemble with Double-Stops/Whistle Jacket member Ben, the hardest working musician in Cambridge, behind the kit.

Bonding over '80s New Wave, '60s girl groups, Delta Blues, and caffeine, the Dying Falls play music that is at once literate and danceable, energetic and introspective. Picture Albert Collins jamming with Edwyn Collins, or a happier Ian Curtis singing lead for the Ronettes - knotty blues-influenced guitar leads locking in with melodic basslines, rave-up synths, and a driving backbeat.

The Dying Falls' first record, "Driftwood," was released as a free download online in 2012. Currently, the Falls are working on their next record and playing shows in the greater Boston area and beyond.
